Not far from Stöng, the Rauðá river runs through an area in the upper Þjórsárdalur valley, an area full of particularly green vegetation and striking rock-and-waterfall formations.

Gjárfoss is a waterfall in the northwestern part of the small valley, emptying into a small pool. The other waterfall meanders a bit more, around some rock formations, over others.

The hike was beautiful, but it is much more vertical than your basic stroll through a national park. Likewise, you’ll need a 4×4 to get there.
